Webcast Performances from the Stanislavsky Electrotheatre

Beginning March 20 the Stanislavsky Electrotheatre launches online webcasts of theatre performances (many with English subtitles) and lectures organized by the School of Contemporary Spectators and Listeners. Webcasts will take place on the Afisha.ru website, the Culture.ru portal and Vkontakte.ru on the theatre’s page.

 

Each day we will post live links before the evening's webcast. If you see something in the schedule that you wish to watch in the future, come here before showtime for the link.

March 20, 7 p.m. Moscow time
Octavia. Trepanation, an opera

Octavia. Trepanation is a musical reflection on the theme of violence and tyranny. The libretto is based on Leo Trotsky's essay about Vladimir Lenin (1924), and fragments of a play attributed to Seneca about the Roman emperor Nero.

This chamber opera by Alexander Belousov is a musical and philosophical reflection, and also an exploration of the history of a maniac. It is based on Spinoza's treatise,  Ethics, about images reaching us from the outside, and the ethical choices that we make ourselves. The opera's title is a combination of the words mania and gnosis - “mania” and “knowledge.”

Composer Vladimir Rannev interprets Yury Mamleev’s short story “The Bridegroom,” and fragments of Chekhov’s novella “The Steppe,” as stages in the development of a single plot. The first is an example of "cruel" prose, the second is contemplative and almost lacking in action.

Drillalians opera series.

This opera series is based on the novel of the same name by Boris Yukhananov about the fantastic land of the Drills, a place that exists parallel to earthly reality and resides simultaneously in three time frames: the past, the present, and the future.

Composed by Dmitri Kourliandski, Boris Filanovsky, Alexey Sioumak, Sergej Newski, Alexey Sysoev, and Vladimir Rannev.

Klim Kozinsky’s debut production as a director is based on two texts: Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel The Idiot, and Monadology (1714), a philosophical work by the predecessor of classical German philosophy, Gottfried Leibniz.

Sarah Kane's play, 4.48 Psychosis, is an iconic play by the British playwright of the in-yer-face generation, which created a new theatrical aesthetic in the 1990s.

Orphic Games. Punk-macramé is a new-processual project of the Stanislavsky Electrotheatre, a single work in 33 acts and 12 performances, rather like the space of 12 rooms with 33 murals on their walls.
