This publication consists of interviews, conversations, reviews and manifestos of Boris Yukhananov and participants in his experimental theatre projects from the mid-1980s to the 1990s. Included are his Theatre Theatre, The Misanthrope, The Observer by Alexei Shipenko, and Octavia, based on the play by Seneca and essays by Lev Trotsky. The reader will discover the fascinating history of Russian underground culture, provided with detailed documentation in the form of program texts and accompanied by unique photo and video materials that bring to life old productions, performances, games, and art objects. "In this paradoxical mix the picture of a brief but very rich creative stage is revealed along with the atmosphere of a specific theatrical and historical time with all its guile, freedom and its confusion before this very freedom. This is evident both in the visual reflections and in the language of the texts that are presented." (Leda Timofeeva, editor-composer of From Theatre Theatre to The Garden.)
