This chamber opera by Alexander Belousov is a musical and philosophical reflection, and also an
exploration of the history of a maniac. It is based on Spinoza's treatise, Ethics, about images reaching us from the outside, and the ethical choices that we make ourselves. The opera's title is a combination of the words mania and gnosis - “mania” and “knowledge.”
