Opera: Browser. Richard Wagner's Tristan and Isolde. Directed by Christoph Marthaler
Opera: Browser is a series of auteur seminars devoted to the work of opera directors in the early 21st century. In each lecture, opera critic and theatre scholar Dmitry Renansky analyzes the most important opera productions of the 2000s and 2010s, landmark works of contemporary musical theatre that reflect varied, often contradictory, strategies in directorial work with opera scores.
Opera: Browser offers a broad panorama of the major directors of our time: from Peter Konwitschny to Jossi Weiler and Sergio Morabito, from Christoph Marthaler to Katie Mitchell, from William Kentridge to Romeo Castellucci.
Dmitry Renansky is a curator, theatre and music critic. He is the chief editor of the theatre section of the COLTA.RU internet portal, a regular contributor to Kommersant and Vedomosti. He is assistant to the artistic director of Theatre Post, and a co-founder of the Opera Group creative association. He worked at the Mikhailovsky Theater and the Taganka Theater; from 2013 to 2016 he was program director of the New Stage at the Alexandrinsky Theater.
