Evgeny Afonin (Curiosity Media Lab)
Video designer, media artist, programmer.
Co-founder and curator of the Curiosity Media Lab (together with Jan Kalnberzin). Former co-founder of the Russian Visual Artists studio. Since 2008 he has worked in the field of digital and multimedia art, a professional in the field of 3D and 2D graphics, video mapping, generative graphics, sound-reactive visualizations, interactive installations and other areas of media culture.
He is a laureate of the Golden Mask national theatre award in the category Lighting Designer in a Musical Theatre for interactive video and lighting on the production of Awakening (2015, New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theatre). He received the Moscow Art Prize (2021) in the Cinema nomination for his work, Gagarin, Lieutenant of the Sky (Panoramic cinema at the Zaryadye media center, 2021).
He is a curator of the TouchFest educational festival of media art (2016). He has hosted educational programs at Curiosity Media Lab since 2014, and has regularly participated in workshops and master classes in Russia and abroad.
He has worked on more than 15 theatrical productions and performances as a media/video artist, including Agatha Returns Home (Praktika Theatre, 2010), The Golden Cockerel (Bolshoi Theatre, 2011), Living Room (Atelier Caroline Carlson, Paris 2013-5), Dorian Gray (Yermolova Theatre), Palms. Digital Nativity Scene (Liquid Theatre), Exhibit. Awakening (Alexandrinsky Theatre, New Stage), Carnival of Animals/A Walk through the Orchestra (Bolshoi Theatre, 2017), Now You Know (Community Stage, 2017), multimedia opera Curiosity (Stanislavsky and Nemirovich -Danchenko Musical Theatre, 2018-19), Forgotten Christmas (Moscow Children's Shadow Theatre, 2019), and many others.
Together with Jan Kalnberzin (Curiosity Media Lab) he created the video design for Curiosity, a multimedia opera (directed by Alexei Smirnov).
