Arina Zvereva

Choirmaster

Arina Zvereva graduated from from the Moscow Conservatory in the class of Professor Igor Agafonnikov (2002), for whom she worked as an assistant from 2004 to 2005. She lectured at Moscow Conservatory from 2005 to 2011, and has collaborated as choirmaster for several years with conductor Teodor Currentzis. Among their joint projects are: Alfred Schnittke’s Concerto for Choir (Territory Festival, 2007), the Diaghilev Festival (2013), two performances directed by Kirill Serebrennikov (Carl Orff’s De Temporum Fine Comoedia, Territory Festival, 2008; and Alexey Sioumak’s Requiem, Moscow Art Theater, 2010); Henry Purcell’s The Indian Queen, directed by Peter Sellars (2013), and Dmitri Kourliandski’s Nosferatu, directed by Theodoros Terzopoulos (2014).

She was appointed visiting choirmaster of the Musica Aeterna choir in September 2011 and became permanent choirmaster in March 2012. Among her latest works there are Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Igor Stravinsky’s Les Noces, Vladimir Nikolaev’s Gereven, Pascal Dusapin’s Medeamaterial, and Brahms’ A German Requiem.

She participated with Teodor Currentzis and the Musica Aeterna orchestra and choir in studio recordings of Mozart’s Così fan tutte and The Marriage of Figaro for the Sony Classical music label.

As music director and conductor, Zvereva has collaborated with the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble (MCME). Among their joint projects are: Brecht and Weill’s The Threepenny Opera, Alexey Sioumak’s Kizhe, directed by Kirill Serebrennikov for the Moscow Art Theater (2009), and the Arias concert-calendar in the framework of the Platform project at the Vinzavod Art Center (2011). She collaborated with the Dmitry Pokrovsky Ensemble on Stockhausen’s Stimmung at Platform in 2013.

Her latest works in the dramatic theater include performances of music by Alexander Manotskov: Dead Souls (2014) and A Common Story (2015), directed by Kirill Serebrennikov at Gogol Center; and Mikhail Stankevich’s The Toupee Artist at the Tabakov Theater.

She is the founder and artistic director of N'Caged, a vocal contemporary music ensemble. She has been the choirmaster at the Stanislavsky Electrotheatre since 2013.
