Gogita
Directed by Levan Koguashvili
(Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, Croatia, Germany, 2016)

After 14 years in prison it's time for Gogita to return to normal life. His desires seem rather modest: to have his own house and to marry a good woman. But who wants to be associated with a poor farmer, a former prisoner living with his mother? Gogita meets Maka on the internet. She is not very young, and not the most beautiful girl in the world, but she knows how to bake stunningly delicious cakes. They soon start building big plans together, even though they have not actually met yet. Gogita's mother is unhappy with the situation: "Why don't you find yourself a beautiful girl? Maka is too fat!" she exclaims. The film includes several short, purely observant scenes. Other scenes are stylistically constructed in such a way that objects, seemingly of their own will, take on important roles. Before us unfolds the tragicomic story of ordinary men and women seeking love in a world that makes very high demands on them. The impressions of everyday life in rural Georgia, isolated entertainments in coastal cities, and traditional Georgian family dinners create a tender and humorous view of a simple person's life in Georgia.

The screening will be followed by the film club's traditional discussion with the creators of the film.
