The impersonal Tao (in the classical translation - Dao) is embodied in the form of a simple gardener who occasionally visits her small vegetable garden. The Tao Gardener is an installation that transpires in the Stanislavsky Electrotheatre foyer, and transforms into a micro-performance. The action lasts for five to seven minutes, after which Tao continues his Way and ascends to his Heavenly abode. Each micro-performance (there are 21 of them) is dedicated to one chapter of the ancient philosophical treatise.

The journey of Tao will run throughout the entire season, and you can monitor the exact dates and times of the descent of Tao (and the beginning of the performance) with a wall calendar that is located near the installation, as well as on the theatre's website.

Translated into Russian from the ancient Chinese by Konishi Masutaro (the first Russian translation of Tao te Ching). Originally published in 1894 and edited by Leo Tolstoy.

English translation by John Minford
